Okemos Road Bridge over Red Cedar River to close through Nov. 2022

Okemos Road Bridge over the Red Cedar River between Mt. Hope Road and Clinton Street, Meridian Twp. – Replacement of existing NB and SB structures with single 5 lanes, single-span bridge including pedestrian facility along the east side, along with bridge approach and Mt. Hope intersection reconstruction, traffic signal, and sidewalk/ramp reconstruction. SB Okemos Road traffic will be detoured via Grand River Ave (M-43), Dobie Rd, and Jolly Rd. SB Okemos Rd detour is scheduled to begin in February 2022 and will continue until November 2022.

North bound Okemos traffic will be maintained throughout construction except for a brief period to accommodate construction staging.

The pedestrian truss on the West side of Okemos Road will remain in place, however pedestrian traffic may be restricted during periods of construction. This project also includes upgrading traffic signals at the following Okemos Rd intersections: Hamilton Rd, Mt. Hope Rd, Science Parkway, Bennett Rd/Kinawa Rd, and Tamarack Drive.

The traffic signal work along Okemos Rd will begin in November 2021. Relocation of utilities near the bridge has begun and will continue until February 2022.
